Cycling Addiction – or – The Problem With Withdrawal

I spent 2 months off my bike. This was following several years of almost daily riding. I use my bike primarily for commuting to work, so when I had a full month off work in pre and post baby birth my bicycles became lonely souls.

You know what didn’t become a lonely soul? My waistline. I think I’m addicted to cycling because the withdrawal symptoms almost killed me.

My symptoms included:
- tubby in the waist
- decreased stamina (jog 5 km? forget about it)
- less energy
- less strength
- less motivation

Sure, some of this might have been a result of the baby being around, placing time and sleep at at premium. But god knows that with my bikes in action again the turn around is upon me.

Jog 5km? No problem! (Except for the trip up Christie to St Clair). Abs and love handles? Well, they’re still there but it’s getting better. Wind-swept hair? Check mate!

It’s amazing how quickly you see the changes once you start cycling daily. Congratulations on fatherhood! That Christie hill is such a beast and it looks so harmless.
